Seven Days of Sadaqah
Seven Days of Sadaqah is a week long effort to practice the Prophet’s kindness and compassion through all of the different ways of making sadaqah. The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.s.) said: “To smile in the company of your brother is charity. To command to do good deeds and to prevent others from doing evil is charity. To guide a person in a place where he can not get astray is charity. To remove troublesome things like thorns and bones from the road is charity. To pour water from your jug into the jug of your brother is charity. To guide a person with defective vision is charity for you.” (Bukhari)
Events
Project Downtown
A man asked Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings be upon him), “Which act in Islam is the best? ” He (Peace and blessings be upon him) replied, “To feed (the poor and the needy) and to greet those whom you know and those you do not know. [Bukhari and Muslim]
The theme for this day is about feeding the needy and helping the less fortunate, so come on over and help us kick off the week by serving our brothers and sisters downtown. It’s a great experience and a great opportunity to share conversations with people we may not have come across otherwise.
Adopt-A-Pond
Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, “To remove troublesome things like thorns and bones from the road is charity.” [Bukhari]
The theme for this day as part of Seven Days of Sadaqah is caring for nature. Join MSA this Monday as we clean our adopted pond while earning some good deeds inshaAllah. Cleaning the pond is actually super fun because we enjoy the weather with friends while doing something great.
Day of Kindness
“Be conscious of Allah SWT wherever you are, and follow up a bad deed with a good one, and interact with people with the best of manners” [al-Tirmidhi]
The theme for this day is practicing kindness and compassion towards others. Speaking a good word, uplifting a friend, helping your parents, sharing food, and forgiving someone are some of the many ways we can practice the kindness of the Prophet (saw).
On this Day of Kindness, stop by the MSA table to recieve a challenge to be good to others and to practice compassion throughout the day.
Later in the day, there will be adiscussion by the Reflection Pond to talk about our experiences.
Spreading Knowledge
Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said: “Whoever teaches some knowledge will have the reward of the one who acts upon it, without that detracting from his reward in the slightest.”
Sadaqah is an Islamic term that most people understand it to mean charity. In Islam, charity is not limited to donations, but also includes spreading knowledge and teaching others good.
This part of Seven Days of Sadaqah actively involves everyone to share wisdom. Join us at the MSA table for fun quizzes, a chance to win prizes, and learn from our Notes of Knowledge jar. The Notes of Knowledge include a piece of Islamic knowledge, and a challenge to spread that knowledge to a few people. Later that day, there will be a halaqa to share knowledge with us hosted by one of our community leaders.
Building Bridges
“Administering justice between two men is a charity.” [Bukhari and Muslim]
These days, the struggle is real for many groups of people, and we can only achieve justice if we fight for it together.
One of the many ways to spread goodness is to stand up for justice and recognize the humanity beyond our differences. Building Bridges will include activists, organizers, and community leaders to speak about the causes they represent. Everyone is invited to participate in the open discussion about how we can support different movements and communities. At this event, we will also show our solidarity by writing letters of support and making gifts that will be sent to these communities.
Join us to make new friendships, build bridges, and promote solidarity with one another!
Remembering our Deen
Join us as we recite group thikr (remembrance) and talking about some of the ways we can remember Allah and what the virtues are of doing so.
Remembering our Deen is especially on Friday because this is the most blessed day of the week and the time to step up our game when it comes to thikr. Whether you’ve never heard of the word thikr/remembrance before or you know all about it, this event is for everyone.
Donate to A Cause
For the last day of Seven Days of Sadaqah, we encourage everyone to make a donation no matter how small (or big) to a noble cause: assisting refugees in our community. We are working with Floridians Responding to Refugees Committeee so the funds go directly to the families.
Please consider donating anything you can without hesitation knowing that you’re helping someone in need and Allah (swt) will only increase your wealth because of it. Share the donation link and enjoy the rewards of people donating because you gave them the opportunity to do so.
